Process
At Mirrimpilyi, we’ll walk alongside you through a supportive and thorough process to become an authorised carer. Most people complete this journey in two to three months, depending on availability and how quickly checks and visits can be scheduled.
- Confirm eligibility
- Application completed and consent given for Mirrimpilyi to complete background checks
- Background checks completed.
- Home visit and training
- Initial home visit and assessment of environment
- Training provided for completion.
- Carer Assessment
- Assessment completed over a number of home visits and includes discussions with all household members
- References contacted.
- Authorisation
- Carer asessment report and Code of Conduct signed by applicant
- Mirrimpilyi registers authorisation with the Office of the Children's Guardian
- Mirrimpilyi provides a letter of authorisation to the authorised carer.
- Carer Support
- Welcome pack provided
- Carer review occurs within 60 days of first placement
- Healing from Trauma Training within 3 months of authorisation
- Ongoing support as needed.
