Staying Home Leaving Violence (SHLV)
What is SHLV?
Staying Home Leaving Violence (SHLV) is a free support service for women and children affected by domestic and family violence.
If you have left a partner who was hurting, threatening, controlling or frightening you, we can help you stay safe in your own home, or support you to move to a home where you feel safe.
We will take the time to listen, understand your situation and help you explore your options. Together, we can make a plan to help keep you and your children safe.
Who is it for?
SHLV supports women, including those who identify as women, and their children who have experienced domestic and family violence. You may be able to access support if:
- You have left a violent or abusive relationship.
- You are worried about your safety or your children's safety.
- Your former partner is still contacting, threatening, monitoring or harassing you.
- You would like support to stay safely in your home or community.
What support is available?
Every woman's situation is different. Support may include:
- Safety planning for you and your children.
- Help to make your home safer Support with housing or tenancy issues.
- Help understanding legal and court processes.
- Assistance to access financial support.
- Connecting you with counselling, health services and other local supports.
- Working with police and other services when needed.
- Support for children and young people affected by violence.
Why is the program important?
For many women and children, leaving violence can also mean losing housing, disrupting education and employment, and becoming disconnected from important support networks.
SHLV provides an alternative pathway by helping women remain safely housed where possible, reducing the risk of homelessness and supporting long-term wellbeing, safety and independence.
